Av David. HERREN er mitt lys og mi frelse, kven skulle eg ottast? HERREN er eit vern for mitt liv, kven skulle eg frykta?

Når valdsmenn og fiendar nærmar seg or å sluka meg, då snublar dei og fell dei sjølve.

Om ein hær vil slå leir mot meg, er mitt hjarte utan frykt. Om krigen trugar, endå er eg trygg.

Eitt bed eg HERREN om, dette ønskjer eg: å få bu i HERRENS hus alle mine dagar, så eg kan sjå HERRENS venleik og vera i hans tempel.

Han gøymer meg i si hytte på den vonde dagen. Han løyner meg i sitt telt. På berget lyfter han meg opp.

No ragar mitt hovud høgt over fienden ikring meg. Med jubel vil eg bera fram offer i hans telt. Eg vil syngja og spela for HERREN.

Høyr, HERRE! Eg ropar høgt. Ver meg nådig og svar meg!

Eg kjem i hug at du har sagt: «De skal søkja mitt andlet.» Ditt andlet søkjer eg, HERRE.

Løyn ikkje andletet for meg! Vis ikkje din tenar bort i vreide, du som har vore mi hjelp. Gud, min frelsar, støyt meg ikkje frå deg, forlat meg ikkje.

Om far og mor forlèt meg, vil HERREN ta imot meg.

HERRE, lær meg din veg og lei meg på jamne stigar, for eg er omgjeven av fiendar.

Gjev meg ikkje over til grådige fiendar! For falske vitne står opp imot meg, menn som trugar med vald.
13
Men eg er viss på at eg skal sjå kor god HERREN er, her i livsens land.
14
Set di von til HERREN! Ver frimodig og sterk, ja, set di von til HERREN!
