Den som sit i skjul hos Den høgste og finn nattely i skuggen av Den veldige,

han seier til HERREN: «Mi tilflukt og mi borg, min Gud som eg set mi lit til!»

Han bergar deg frå fuglefangarens snare, frå pest som legg i øyde.

Under hans venger kan du søkja ly, med fjørene dekkjer han deg. Hans truskap er skjold og vern.

Du skal ikkje frykta for redsler i natta, for piler som flyg om dagen,

for pest som fer fram i mørkret, for plage som herjar ved middagstid.
7
Om tusen fell ved di side, ti tusen ved di høgre hand, blir du ikkje råka.
8
Du skal berre følgja det med auga og sjå at dei skuldige får si løn.
9
«Du, HERRE, er mi tilflukt.» Den høgste har du gjort til din bustad.
10
Det skal ikkje henda deg noko vondt, inga plage skal koma nær ditt telt.

For han skal gje englane sine påbod om å verna deg på alle dine vegar.

Dei skal bera deg på hendene så du ikkje støyter foten mot nokon stein.
13
Du skal trø på løve og slange og trampa på ungløve og orm.
14
«Eg bergar han når han held seg til meg, eg vernar han, for han kjenner mitt namn.
15
Når han kallar på meg, svarar eg, eg er med han i nauda, eg friar han ut og gjev han ære.
16
Eg mettar han med eit langt liv og lèt han sjå mi frelse.»
