Oração de um aflito que na sua miséria expõe a sua angústia diante do Senhor.

Senhor, escuta a minha oração e chegue junto de ti o meu clamor! Não me ocultes o teu rosto no dia da aflição. Inclina para mim o teu ouvido; no dia em que te invocar, responde-me sem demora!
4
Porque os meus dias se desvanecem como fumo e os meus ossos ardem como um braseiro.
5
Como a erva cortada, o meu coração está ressequido; até me esqueço de comer o meu pão.
6
À força de tanto gemer, os ossos colaram-se à minha pele.
7
Tornei-me semelhante ao pelicano no deserto; sou como a coruja nas ruínas abandonadas.
8
Não consigo dormir e suspiro; sou como um pássaro solitário sobre um telhado.
9
Os meus inimigos insultam-me todo o dia, e com furor proferem imprecações contra mim.
10
Em vez de pão, como cinza e misturo a minha bebida com lágrimas,
11
por causa da tua indignação e do teu furor; fizeste-me subir, para depois me rejeitares.
12
Os meus dias são como a sombra que declina e eu vou secando como a erva.
13
Tu, porém, Senhor, permaneces para sempre e o teu nome será lembrado por todas as gerações.
14
Levanta-te, tem piedade de Sião; já é tempo de lhe perdoares.
15
Os teus servos amam as suas pedras, sentem pena das suas ruínas.
16
Os povos honrarão, Senhor, o teu nome, e todos os reis da terra, a tua majestade.
17
Quando o Senhor reconstruir Sião e manifestar a sua glória,
18
há-de voltar-se para a oração do indigente e não desprezará as suas súplicas.
19
Escrevam-se estas coisas para as gerações futuras, e os que hão-de nascer louvarão o Senhor.
20
O Senhor observa do alto do seu santuário; lá do céu, Ele olha para a terra,
21
para escutar os gemidos dos cativos e livrar os condenados à morte.
22
Em Sião será anunciado o nome do Senhor, e em Jerusalém, a sua glória,
23
quando os povos de todas as nações se reunirem para servirem o Senhor.
24
Ele deixou-me sem forças no caminho e abreviou os meus dias.
25
«Meu Deus, eu te peço: não me leves a meio dos meus dias!» Os teus anos duram por todas as gerações.
26
Tu fundaste a terra desde o princípio e os céus são obra das tuas mãos.
27
Eles deixarão de existir, mas Tu permanecerás; tal como um vestido, eles vão-se gastando; como um vestido que se muda, assim eles desaparecem.
28
Mas Tu permaneces sempre o mesmo, os teus anos não têm fim.
29
Os filhos dos teus servos hão-de viver tranquilos e a sua descendência perdurará na tua presença.
