Ao director do coro. Salmo de David.*Senhor, Tu examinaste-me e conheces-me,

sabes quando me sento e quando me levanto; à distância conheces os meus pensamentos.

Vês-me quando caminho e quando descanso; estás atento a todos os meus passos.

Ainda a palavra me não chegou à boca, já Tu, Senhor, a conheces perfeitamente.

Tu me envolves por todo o lado e sobre mim colocas a tua mão.

É uma sabedoria profunda, que não posso compreender; tão sublime, que a não posso atingir!

Onde é que eu poderia ocultar-me do teu espírito? Para onde poderia fugir da tua presença?
8
Se subir aos céus, Tu lá estás; se descer ao mundo dos mortos, ali te encontras.

Se voar nas asas da aurora ou for morar nos confins do mar

mesmo aí a tua mão há-de guiar-me e a tua direita me sustentará.

Se disser: «Talvez as trevas me possam esconder, ou a luz se transforme em noite à minha volta»,

nem as trevas me ocultariam de ti e a noite seria, para ti, brilhante como o dia. A luz e as trevas seriam a mesma coisa!

Tu modelaste as entranhas do meu ser e formaste-me no seio de minha mãe.
14
Dou-te graças por tão espantosas maravilhas; admiráveis são as tuas obras.
15
Quando os meus ossos estavam a ser formados, e eu, em segredo, me desenvolvia, tecido nas profundezas da terra, nada disso te era oculto.
16
Os teus olhos viram-me em embrião. Tudo isso estava escrito no teu livro. Todos os meus dias estavam modelados, ainda antes que um só deles existisse.

Como são insondáveis, ó Deus, os teus pensamentos! Como é incalculável o seu número!
18
Se os quisesse contar, seriam mais do que a areia; e, se pudesse chegar ao fim, estaria ainda contigo.
19
Ó Deus, faz com que os ímpios desapareçam; afasta de mim os homens sanguinários.
20
Aqueles que maldosamente se revoltam, em vão se levantam contra ti.
21
Não hei-de eu, Senhor, odiar os que te odeiam? Não hei-de aborrecer os que se voltam contra ti?
22
Odeio-os com toda a minha alma. Considero-os como meus inimigos.
23
Examina-me, Senhor, e vê o meu coração; põe-me à prova para saber os meus pensamentos.
24
Vê se é errado o meu caminho e guia-me pelo caminho eterno.
