Cantique des pèlerinages. Souviens-toi, ô Eternel, en faveur de David De toute sa peine !

Il l'a juré à l'Eternel, Il en a fait vœu au Puissant de Jacob:

Non, je n'entrerai pas dans la tente où j'habite, Je ne monterai pas sur le lit où je repose,
4
Je ne donnerai pas de sommeil à mes yeux, De repos à mes paupières,
5
Jusqu'à ce que j'aie trouvé un lieu pour l'Eternel, Une demeure pour le Puissant de Jacob.

Voici, nous avons entendu dire qu'elle était à Ephratha, Nous l'avons trouvée dans les champs de Jaar !...

Nous irons à Sa demeure, Nous nous prosternerons devant Son marchepied.
8
Lève-toi, Eternel ! viens à ton lieu de repos, Toi et l'arche de ta force !

Tes sacrificateurs se revêtiront de justice, Et tes fidèles pousseront des cris de joie.

Pour l'amour de David, ton serviteur !... Ne rejette pas la face de ton Oint !

L'Eternel l'a juré à David, C'est une chose certaine qu'il ne rétractera pas: Je mettrai sur ton trône Un homme né de toi.

Si tes fils gardent mon alliance Et mon témoignage que je leur enseignerai, Leurs fils aussi, à jamais, Seront assis sur ton trône.

Car l'Eternel a fait choix de Sion; Il l'a désirée pour sa résidence:

C'est là qu'est le lieu de mon repos à jamais, C'est elle que j'habiterai, car je l'ai désirée.
15
Je bénirai, oui, je bénirai ses vivres, Je rassasierai de pain ses indigents.
16
Je revêtirai ses sacrificateurs du salut, Et ses fidèles chanteront, oui, chanteront de joie.
17
Là je ferai germer une corne à David, J'ai préparé un flambeau pour mon Oint.
18
Je revêtirai ses ennemis de confusion, Et sur lui fleurira son diadème.
