Cantique. Psaume d'Asaph. O Dieu ! ne demeure pas dans le silence; Ne sois pas muet, ne reste pas en repos, ô Dieu fort !

Car voici, tes ennemis s'agitent, Et ceux qui te haïssent lèvent la tête.

Ils trament contre ton peuple de perfides complots Et se concertent contre ceux que tu protèges.
4
Venez, disent-ils, faisons-les disparaître d'entre les nations, Et que l'on ne se souvienne plus du nom d'Israël !
5
Car ils ont conspiré d'un même cœur, Ils forment une alliance contre toi:
6
Les tentes d'Edom et les Ismaélites, Moab et les Hagaréniens,
7
Guébal, Ammon et Amalek, Les Philistins avec les habitants de Tyr;
8
Assur aussi se joint à eux; Ils prêtent leurs bras aux fils de Lot. (Jeu d'instruments.)
9
Traite-les comme Madian, Comme Sisera, comme Jabin, au torrent de Kison;
10
Ils furent défaits à En-Dor Et servirent de fumier à la terre.
11
Rends-les, rends leurs chefs semblables à Oreb et Zéeb, Et tous leurs princes à Zébach et à Tsalmunna,
12
Eux qui disent: Rendons-nous maîtres Des demeures de Dieu !
13
Mon Dieu ! rends-les semblables au tourbillon, Au chaume emporté par le vent !
14
Comme le feu dévore la forêt, Comme la flamme embrase les montagnes,
15
Ainsi, poursuis-les de ta tempête, Epouvante-les par ton ouragan.
16
Couvre leur face d'ignominie, Et qu'ils cherchent ton nom, ô Eternel !
17
Qu'ils rougissent, qu'ils soient consternés à jamais, Qu'ils soient couverts de honte et qu'ils périssent !
18
Et qu'ils sachent que toi, que ton nom, ô Eternel, que toi seul, Tu es le Très-Haut sur toute la terre !
