Qui méditent de mauvais desseins dans leur cœur; Chaque jour ils suscitent des combats;

Ils affilent leur langue comme le serpent, Un venin d'aspic est sous leurs lèvres. (Jeu d'instruments.)

Garde-moi, Eternel, des mains des méchants; Préserve-moi des hommes violents, Qui méditent de faire trébucher mes pas.

Des orgueilleux m'ont dressé pièges et filets, Ils ont tendu des rêts sur le bord du chemin, Ils m'ont dressé des embûches. (Jeu d'instruments.)

J'ai dit à l'Eternel: Tu es mon Dieu ! Prête l'oreille, ô Eternel, à la voix de mes supplications.

Eternel, Seigneur, force de mon salut, Tu couvres ma tête au jour de la bataille.

N'accorde pas, ô Eternel, au méchant ce qu'il désire, Ne laisse pas réussir ses desseins: Ils s'élèveraient ! (Jeu d'instruments.)

Que sur la tête de ceux qui m'assiègent Retombe l'iniquité de leurs lèvres !

Que l'on jette sur eux des charbons ardents, Qu'on les précipite dans le feu, Dans des gouffres d'eau d'où ils ne se relèvent pas !

La langue méchante ne subsistera pas sur la terre. Quant à l'homme violent, Le mal s'attachera sans relâche à sa poursuite.

Je sais que l'Eternel fera justice à l'affligé Et droit au misérable;

Certainement les justes loueront ton nom, Les hommes droits habiteront devant ta face.
