Au maître chantre. Sur Guitthith. D'Asaph. Chantez avec allégresse à Dieu, notre force ! Poussez des cris de joie vers le Dieu de Jacob !

Entonnez un chant et faites résonner le tambourin, La harpe mélodieuse et le luth !

Sonnez de la trompe à la nouvelle lune, A la pleine lune, pour le jour de notre fête !

Car c'est un statut pour Israël, Une ordonnance du Dieu de Jacob,

Un témoignage qu'il a établi en Joseph, Quand il sortit contre le pays d'Egypte. J'entendais [alors] un langage qui m'était inconnu:

J'ai déchargé son épaule du fardeau; Ses mains ont lâché la corbeille.

Tu as crié dans la détresse, et je t'ai délivré; Je t'ai répondu, caché dans le tonnerre; Je t'ai éprouvé près des eaux de Mériba. (Jeu d'instruments.)

Ecoute, mon peuple, et je t'avertirai; Israël, oh ! puisses-tu m'écouter !

Qu'il n'y ait au milieu de toi aucun autre Dieu, Et ne te prosterne pas devant un Dieu étranger !

Je suis l'Eternel, ton Dieu, qui t'ai fait monter du pays d'Egypte; Ouvre ta bouche, et je la remplirai !

Mais mon peuple n'a point écouté ma voix, Et Israël n'a point voulu de moi.

Alors je les ai abandonnés à la dureté de leur cœur; Ils marchèrent selon leurs propres conseils...

Oh ! si mon peuple m'écoutait, Si Israël marchait dans mes voies !
14
J'aurais bientôt humilié leurs ennemis, Et je tournerais ma main contre leurs oppresseurs;
15
Ceux qui haïssent l'Eternel le flatteraient; Le temps de leur prospérité durerait éternellement.
16
Je les nourrirais de la moëlle du froment, Je te rassasierais du miel du rocher.
