Que ma prière parvienne en ta présence; Incline ton oreille à mon cri.

Car mon âme est rassasiée de maux, Et ma vie touche au séjour des morts.

On me compte parmi ceux qui descendent dans la fosse; Je suis comme un homme sans force.

Je suis abandonné parmi les morts, Comme ceux qui, frappés à mort, sont couchés au tombeau, Desquels tu n'as plus aucun souvenir, Et qui ne sont plus à portée de ta main.

Tu m'as jeté dans la fosse la plus basse, Dans les lieux ténébreux, aux abîmes.

Ta colère s'est jetée sur moi, Et tu m'as accablé de tous tes flots. (Jeu d'instruments.)

Tu as éloigné de moi mes amis, Tu m'as rendu pour eux un objet d'horreur; Je suis enfermé, et je ne puis sortir.

Mon œil se consume dans l'affliction; Je t'invoque, ô Eternel, chaque jour; J'étends vers toi les mains.

Feras-tu quelque miracle pour les morts? Ou bien les ombres se lèveront-elles pour te louer?

Annoncera-t-on ta bonté dans le tombeau, Et ta fidélité dans l'abîme?

Connaîtra-t-on tes prodiges dans les ténèbres, Et ta justice en la terre d'oubli?
13
Et moi, Eternel, je crie à toi; Ma prière te prévient dès le matin...

Pourquoi, Eternel, rejettes-tu mon âme, Et me caches-tu ta face?
15
Je suis affligé et comme expirant dès ma jeunesse; Je suis chargé de tes terreurs, je suis éperdu.
16
Les ardeurs de ta colère ont passé sur moi, Tes épouvantes me tuent.
17
Elles m'environnent comme des eaux tout le jour; Elles m'enveloppent toutes à la fois.
18
Tu as éloigné de moi amis et compagnons; Ma société... ce sont les ténèbres !
