De David. O Eternel ! sois l'adversaire de mes adversaires, Combats ceux qui me combattent;
2
Saisis le petit et le grand bouclier, Et lève-toi pour me secourir !
3
Tire la lance et ferme le passage à ceux qui me poursuivent, Dis à mon âme: Je suis ta délivrance.
4
Qu'ils soient confus et couverts de honte, Ceux qui en veulent à ma vie; Qu'ils reculent confondus, Ceux qui méditent ma ruine;
5
Qu'ils soient comme la balle au vent, Et que l'ange de l'Eternel les chasse.
6
Que leur chemin soit ténébreux et glissant, Et que l'ange de l'Eternel les poursuive.
7
Car ils ont caché sans cause la fosse et le filet sous mes pas, Sans cause ils ont creusé, pour m'ôter la vie.
8
Que la ruine surprenne [l'ennemi] à l'improviste, Que le filet qu'il a caché le retienne, Qu'il y tombe pour sa ruine !
9
Et mon âme tressaillira de joie en l'Eternel, Elle se réjouira en sa délivrance;
10
Tous mes os diront: Eternel ! qui est semblable à toi, Qui délivres le malheureux d'un plus fort que lui, Le malheureux et le pauvre de celui qui le dépouille?
11
Des témoins iniques s'élèvent, Ils me demandent des choses dont je ne sais rien;
12
Ils me rendent le mal pour le bien, Mon âme est dans l'abandon.
13
Et moi, quand ils étaient malades, je prenais le sac, J'humiliais mon âme par le jeûne, Je priais, la tête penchée sur mon sein,
14
Je me traînais, comme s'il s'agissait d'un ami, d'un frère, J'étais courbé dans le deuil, comme pour la mort d'une mère.
15
Puis, quand je chancelle, ils se réjouissent et s'assemblent; Ils s'assemblent contre moi, Me calomniant, sans que je le sache; Ils déchirent sans relâche.
16
Avec les bouffons de table les plus grossiers, Ils grincent des dents contre moi.
17
Seigneur ! jusques à quand le verras-tu? Retire mon âme de la ruine qu'ils me préparent, Mon unique d'entre les lionceaux !
18
Je te louerai dans une grande assemblée; Je te célébrerai au milieu d'un peuple nombreux.
19
Qu'ils ne se réjouissent pas à mon sujet, Ceux qui sont à tort mes ennemis. Que ceux qui m'ont haï sans cause ne clignent pas de l'œil...
20
Car ils parlent un langage qui n'est pas celui de la paix, Et ils inventent des fourberies contre les gens paisibles du pays.
21
Ils ouvrent toute grande leur bouche contre moi, Ils disent: Ah ! ah ! nos yeux ont vu !
22
Tu as vu, ô Eternel ne reste pas silencieux, Seigneur, ne t'éloigne pas de moi.
23
Eveille-toi, réveille-toi pour mon droit, Mon Dieu et mon Seigneur ! pour ma cause.
24
Juge-moi selon ta justice, Eternel, mon Dieu ! Et qu'ils ne se réjouissent point à mon sujet;
25
Qu'ils ne disent point en leur cœur: Ah ! voilà ce que nous désirions ! Qu'ils ne disent pas: Nous l'avons englouti !
26
Que tous ensemble ils soient honteux et confus, Ceux qui se réjouissent de mon malheur ! Qu'ils soient couverts de honte et de confusion Ceux qui s'élèvent orgueilleusement contre moi !
27
Qu'ils se réjouissent avec un chant de triomphe, Ceux qui prennent plaisir à mon innocence, Et qu'ils disent continuellement: Exalté soit l'Eternel, Qui prend plaisir à ce que son serviteur jouisse de la paix !
28
Ma langue aussi racontera ta justice, Elle dira tous les jours ta louange.
