Seigneur, Dieu de mon salut! Je crie le jour et pendant la nuit devant toi.

Que ma prière parvienne jusque devant toi! Tends l'oreille vers mon cri!

Car je suis rassasié de maux, et ma vie touche au séjour des morts.

On me compte parmi ceux qui descendent dans le gouffre, je suis comme un homme qui n'a plus de force.

Je suis étendu parmi les morts, semblable à ceux qui sont transpercés et couchés dans une tombe, à ceux dont tu n'as plus le souvenir et qui sont séparés de ta main.
7
Tu m'as jeté dans un gouffre sans fond, dans les ténèbres, dans les profondeurs.
8
Ta fureur s'appesantit sur moi, et tu m'affliges de tous tes flots.
9
Tu as éloigné de moi ceux que je connais, tu as fait de moi une abomination pour eux; je suis enfermé et je ne peux plus sortir.
10
Mon œil s'éteint d'affliction; je t'invoque sans cesse, Seigneur, je tends les mains vers toi.
11
Est-ce pour les morts que tu feras des choses étonnantes? Les ombres se lèveront-elles pour te célébrer?
12
Dira-t-on ta fidélité dans la tombe, ta constance dans le monde des disparus?
13
Tes actes étonnants sont-ils connus dans les ténèbres, et ta justice au pays de l'oubli?
14
Quant à moi, c'est toi, Seigneur, que j'ai appelé au secours; au matin ma prière va au-devant de toi.
15
Pourquoi, Seigneur, me repousses-tu, te détournes-tu de moi?
16
Je suis pauvre et moribond depuis ma jeunesse, je suis chargé de tes terreurs, je suis désemparé.
17
Les ardeurs de ta colère passent sur moi, tes effrois me réduisent au silence.
18
Ils m'entourent sans cesse comme des eaux, tous ensemble ils m'encerclent.
19
Tu as éloigné de moi amis et compagnons; ceux que je connais ne sont que ténèbres.
