Je réfléchis aux jours d'autrefois, Aux années du lointain passé.

Le Seigneur rejettera-t-il pour l'éternité? Ne sera-t-il plus à nouveau favorable?

Sa bienveillance est-elle à jamais épuisée? Ce qu'il dit est-il anéanti de génération en génération?

Dieu a-t-il oublié de faire grâce? A-t-il, dans sa colère, retiré ses compassions?

Je dis: Ce qui fait ma souffrance, C'est que la droite du Très-Haut n'est plus la même…

Je me rappellerai les actes de l'Éternel, Car je me rappelle surtout ton miracle d'autrefois;

Je méditerai sur toute ton action. Je réfléchirai sur tes hauts faits.

Dieu! ton chemin est dans la sainteté; Quel dieu est grand comme Dieu?

C'est toi le Dieu qui opère le miracle; Tu as parmi les peuples fait reconnaître ta puissance.

Par ton bras tu as racheté ton peuple, Les fils de Jacob et de Joseph.

Les eaux t'ont vu, ô Dieu! Les eaux t'ont vu, elles ont bouillonné; Oui, les abîmes se sont agités.

Les nuages versèrent des torrents d'eau, Le ciel d'orage a donné de la voix, Oui, tes flèches volèrent de toutes parts,

(Au) bruit de ton tonnerre dans le tourbillon, Les éclairs illuminèrent le monde; La terre s'agita et trembla.
