Prière de Moïse, homme de Dieu. Seigneur! Toi, tu as été pour nous un refuge, De génération en génération.

Avant que les montagnes soient nées, Et que tu aies donné un commencement à la terre et au monde, D'éternité en éternité tu es Dieu.

Tu fais retourner l'homme à la poussière, Et tu dis: Fils d'Adam, retournez!

Car mille ans sont, à tes yeux, Comme le jour d'hier, quand il passe, Et comme une veille de la nuit.

Tu les emportes; ils sont (comme un instant de) sommeil, Qui, le matin, passe comme l'herbe:

Elle fleurit le matin et elle passe, On la coupe le soir, et elle sèche.

Nous défaillons par l'effet de ta colère, Et ta fureur nous épouvante.
8
Tu mets devant toi nos fautes Et à la lumière de ta face ce que nous dissimulons.
9
Car tous nos jours déclinent par ton courroux; Nous voyons nos années s'achever comme un murmure.
10
Le nombre de nos années s'élève à soixante-dix ans Et, si (nous sommes) vigoureux, à quatre-vingts ans; Et leur agitation n'est que peine et misère, Car cela passe vite, et nous nous envolons.

Qui reconnaît la force de ta colère Et ton courroux, selon la crainte qui t'est due?

Enseigne-(nous ) ainsi à compter nos jours, Afin que nous conduisions (notre) cœur avec sagesse.

Reviens, Éternel! Jusques à quand…? Aie pitié de tes serviteurs!

Rassasie-nous dès le matin de ta bienveillance, Et nous serons triomphants et joyeux en toutes nos journées.
15
Réjouis-nous autant de jours que tu nous as humiliés, Autant d'années que nous avons vu le malheur.
16
Que ton œuvre apparaisse à tes serviteurs, Et ta splendeur sur leurs fils!
17
Que la tendresse du Seigneur, notre Dieu, soit sur nous! Affermis pour nous l'ouvrage de nos mains, Oui, affermis l'ouvrage de nos mains!
