Psaume d'Asaph. Ô Dieu! les nations ont envahi ton héritage, Elles ont rendu impur ton saint temple, Elles ont fait de Jérusalem un monceau de pierres.

Elles ont livré les cadavres de tes serviteurs En pâture aux oiseaux du ciel, La chair de tes fidèles aux animaux de la terre;

Elles ont répandu leur sang comme de l'eau Aux alentours de Jérusalem, Sans personne pour les ensevelir.

Nous sommes devenus l'opprobre de nos voisins, La moquerie et la risée de ceux qui nous entourent.

Jusques à quand, Éternel! t'irriteras-tu sans cesse, Ta jalousie s'embrasera-t-elle comme le feu?

Répands ta fureur sur les nations Qui ne te connaissent pas, Et sur les royaumes Qui n'invoquent pas ton nom!

Car on a dévoré Jacob Et désolé sa demeure.

Ne te souviens plus de nos premières fautes! Que tes compassions viennent en hâte au-devant de nous! Car nous sommes bien affaiblis.

Secours-nous, Dieu de notre salut, En raison de la gloire de ton nom! Délivre-nous et fais l'expiation de nos péchés, À cause de ton nom!

Pourquoi les nations diraient-elles: Où est leur Dieu? Qu'elle soit reconnue, à nos yeux, parmi les nations, La vengeance du sang de tes serviteurs, qui a été répandu!

Que les soupirs du prisonnier parviennent jusqu'à toi! Par ton bras puissant Sauve ceux qui sont en danger de mort!

Rends à nos voisins sept fois dans leur sein Le déshonneur qu'ils t'ont infligé, Seigneur!

Et nous, ton peuple, le troupeau de ton pâturage, Nous te célébrerons éternellement; De génération en génération nous redirons ta louange.
