Fri meg, Gud, fra mine fiender, vern meg mot dem som angriper meg!

Fri meg fra folk som farer med ondskap, og frels meg fra drapsmenn!

For se, de ligger og lurer på meg, sterke menn går til strid imot meg. Uten at jeg har forbrutt meg, Herre,

uten at jeg har synd eller skyld, stormer de fram og fylker seg til strid. Våkn opp, kom til meg – og se!

Herre, Allhærs Gud, du er jo Israels Gud. Våkn opp og krev alle folk til regnskap, vær ikke nådig mot troløse nidinger!

De kommer igjen hver kveld; da hyler de som hunder og farer omkring i byen.
8
Hør, hvor de bruker munn, leppene deres er som sverd. Er det noen som hører?
9
Men du, Herre, ler av dem, du spotter alle folkeslag.
10
Jeg vil akte på deg, min styrke, Gud er min faste borg.
11
Min Gud møter meg med sin miskunn, han lar meg se at mine fiender faller.
12
Drep dem ikke, så mitt folk ikke glemmer det! Bruk makt, så de må flakke omkring, og styrt dem ned, Herre, du vårt skjold!
13
Hvert ord de tar i sin munn, er synd. La dem fanges i sitt eget hovmod fordi de farer med forbannelse og løgn.

Gjør ende på dem i din harme, gjør ende på dem, så de ikke er mer. Da skal folkene skjønne at det er Gud som rår i Jakob, ja, helt til verdens ende.

De kommer igjen hver kveld; da hyler de som hunder og farer omkring i byen.
16
De streifer om for å finne mat, og knurrer når de ikke blir mette.
17
Men jeg vil synge om din makt og juble hver morgen over din trofasthet. For meg er du blitt en borg, en tilflukt på nødens dag.
18
Jeg vil synge for deg, min styrke; for Gud er min faste borg, min Gud som viser miskunn.
