En læresalme av Asaf. Gud, hvorfor har du forstøtt oss for alltid? Hvorfor ryker din vrede mot hjorden du vokter?

Kom i hu den menighet som du vant deg i gammel tid, den stammen du fridde ut som din eiendom. Tenk på Sion-fjellet, hvor du har din bolig.

Stig opp til de gamle ruiner! I helligdommen har fienden ødelagt alt.

I huset hvor din menighet samles, lød brølet fra dine motstandere; der satte de sine bannere som seierstegn.

Det var et syn som når en løfter økser høyt i tykke skogen.

Så slo de i stykker all treskurden der med bile og med brekkjern.

De satte ild på din helligdom, helt til grunnen vanæret de stedet hvor ditt navn bor.

De tenkte: «Vi underkuer dem alle!» Hvert gudshus i landet brente de opp.

Vi ser ikke våre egne bannere. Det fins ikke lenger noen profet, og det er ingen iblant oss som vet hvor lenge dette skal vare.

Hvor lenge, Gud, skal de drive sin spott, de som står deg imot? Skal fienden for alltid ringeakte ditt navn?

Hvorfor holder du hånden tilbake? Ta din høyre hånd fra barmen og gjør slutt på dette!

Men du, Gud, er min konge fra gammel tid, du som gjør frelsesverk på jorden.
13
Du kløvde havet i din velde og knuste dragenes hoder i vannet.
14
Du slo i stykker Leviatans hoder og gav dem til føde for ørkenens dyr.
15
Kilde og bekk lot du strømme fram, du tørket ut elver som alltid har vann.
16
Din er dagen, og din er natten; du satte sol og måne på sin plass.
17
Du fastsatte alle jordens grenser, sommer og vinter er det du som har skapt.
18
Herre, kom dette i hu når fienden driver sin spott, og et folk av dårer forakter ditt navn.

Gi ikke din turteldue til villdyr, glem aldri dine armes liv!
20
Kom i hu din pakt med oss! For hver avkrok i landet er full av voldsferd.
21
La ikke de undertrykte gå bort med skam, la de arme og fattige prise ditt navn!

Reis deg, Gud, og før din sak! Husk at du dagen lang hånes av dårer.
23
Glem ikke dine fienders rop, støyen som stadig stiger fra dem som står deg imot.
