Jeg roper høyt til Gud, jeg roper til Gud, og han hører meg.

I trengselstider søker jeg til Herren. Om natten strekker jeg ut min hånd, og den blir ikke trett. Min sjel lar seg ikke trøste.

Jeg tenker på Gud og sukker; jeg grubler og kjenner meg kraftløs.

Hele natten holder du meg våken. Jeg er så urolig, jeg kan ikke tale.

Jeg tenker på gamle dager, og minnes fjerne år.

Om natten strever jeg med tanker, jeg grubler, min ånd gransker.

Vil Herren forkaste oss for alltid og aldri vise sin godvilje mer?

Er hans trofasthet for evig slutt, har hans ord forstummet for alle slekter?

Kan Gud ha glemt å være nådig, har han i vrede lukket for sin miskunn?

Jeg sier: «Det piner meg at Den Høyeste har trukket sin hånd tilbake.»

Jeg minnes Herrens gjerninger, minnes de under du gjorde før.

Jeg tenker på hver dåd du gjorde, og grunner på dine storverk.

Gud, i hellighet går du fram. Hvor er en gud så stor som Herren?

Du er den Gud som gjør under, blant folkene har du vist din kraft.

Med velde løste du ut ditt folk, både Jakobs og Josefs sønner.

Vannmassene fikk se deg, Gud; vannet så deg og skalv, ja, havdypet skalv av skrekk.

Regnet strømmet fra skyene, tordenen drønnet fra skydekt himmel, og dine lyn fór av sted som piler.
19
Din torden rullet som vognhjul, lynene lyste opp jordens krets; jorden ristet og skalv.
20
Din vei gikk gjennom sjøen, din sti gjennom veldig vann; men ingen kjente dine fotspor.
21
Du førte ditt folk som en hjord ved Mose og Arons hånd.
