Den som sitter i Den Høyestes ly og bor i Den Allmektiges skygge,

han sier til Herren: «Min tilflukt og borg, min Gud som jeg setter min lit til!»

Ja, han berger deg fra jegerens snare, fra pest som legger øde.
4
Han dekker deg med sine fjær, under hans vinger finner du ly. Hans trofasthet er skjold og vern.
5
Du skal ikke frykte for nattens redsler, for pilene som flyr om dagen,
6
for pest som sniker seg fram i mørket, for sott som herjer ved middagstid.
7
Om tusen faller ved din side, ti tusen ved din høyre hånd, så skal ikke ulykken nå deg.
8
Du skal bare være vitne til det og se at de ugudelige får sin lønn.
9
For du sier: «Herren er min tilflukt.» Den Høyeste har du gjort til din bolig.
10
Du skal ikke rammes av noe vondt, og ingen plage skal nå ditt telt.
11
For han skal gi sine engler befaling om å bevare deg på alle dine veier.
12
De skal bære deg på hendene, så du ikke støter foten mot noen stein.
13
På løve og orm skal du trampe, ungløve og slange skal du trå under fot.
14
«Jeg berger ham, for han holder seg til meg; jeg gir ham ly, for han kjenner mitt navn.
15
Når han kaller på meg, svarer jeg; jeg er med ham i nød og trengsel, jeg frir ham ut og gir ham ære.
16
Jeg metter ham med mange dager og lar ham se min frelse.»
