De quan el profeta Natan anà a trobar-lo després que David hagués tingut relacions amb Betsabé.

Compadeix-te de mi, Déu meu, pel teu amor; per la teva gran misericòrdia, esborra’m les faltes.
4
Renta’m ben bé de les culpes, purifica’m dels pecats.
5
Ara reconec les meves faltes, tinc sempre present el meu pecat.
6
Contra tu, contra tu sol he pecat; el que és dolent als teus ulls, jo ho he fet. Per això ets just quan dónes la sentència, irreprensible en el teu veredicte.
7
Tu saps que he nascut en la culpa i que la mare m’engendrà pecador.
8
Tu que estimes la veritat al fons del cor, em fas conèixer dintre meu la saviesa.
9
Aspergeix-me amb hisop, que quedi pur; renta’m, i seré més blanc que la neu.
10
Fes que torni a sentir els crits de festa, que exultin els ossos que havies humiliat.
11
Aparta la mirada dels meus pecats, esborra les meves culpes.
12
Déu meu, crea en mi un cor ben pur, fes renéixer en mi un esperit ferm.
13
No em llancis fora de la teva presència, no em prenguis el teu esperit sant.
14
Torna’m el goig de la teva salvació, que em sostingui un esperit magnànim.
15
Ensenyaré els teus camins als pecadors i tornaran a tu els qui t’han abandonat.
16
No em demanis compte de la sang que he vessat, Déu meu, Déu que em salves, i celebraré que ets just i que ets bo.
17
Senyor, obre els meus llavis, i proclamaré la teva lloança.
18
Les víctimes no et satisfan; si t’oferia un holocaust, no me’l voldries.
19
La víctima que ofereixo és un esperit que es penedeix; un cor penedit i humiliat, tu, Déu meu, no el menysprees.
20
Afavoreix Sió amb la teva benvolença, reconstrueix les muralles de Jerusalem.
21
Llavors acceptaràs els sacrificis, l’ofrena sencera i els holocaustos; llavors oferiran vedells al teu altar.
