Cant. Del recull d’Assaf. Per què t’obstines, Déu nostre, a rebutjar-nos i t’indignes amb el ramat que pastures?

Recorda’t del poble que en altre temps et vas fer teu, de la tribu i l’heretat que has redimit, de la muntanya de Sió on residies.
3
Adreça-hi els teus passos, que ara és una ruïna completa: els enemics han devastat el santuari.
4
Baladrejant en el lloc dels teus aplecs, els teus adversaris hi han hissat els estendards.
5
S’assemblaven als qui branden les destrals en un bosc impenetrable,
6
quan estellaven amb maces i tascons totes les motllures i els relleus.
7
Han calat foc al santuari, l’han arrasat, han profanat el lloc de residència del teu nom.
8
Es deien dintre seu: «Destruïm-los d’un cop!» Han cremat en el país els llocs de culte.
9
No veiem les nostres senyeres, ja no ens queda cap profeta, i ningú de nosaltres no sap quant durarà.
10
Fins quan, Déu nostre, ens insultarà l’opressor? Gosarà l’adversari menysprear el teu nom per sempre?
11
Per què retires la teva mà i la mantens inactiva sobre el pit?
12
Però tu, oh Déu, des de sempre ets el meu rei, victoriós arreu de la terra.
13
Vas dividir la mar amb gran poder, i trencares els caps dels monstres marins.
14
Vas esclafar els caps de Leviatan i convidares a menjar-se’l gent que són feres.
15
Vas obrir fonts i torrents, i vas eixugar rius inestroncables.
16
Teu és el dia, teva és la nit; vas fixar la lluna i el sol.
17
Vas marcar els límits de la terra; l’estiu i l’hivern, tu vas formar-los.
18
Recorda, Senyor, que l’enemic t’insulta, que un poble insensat menysprea el teu nom.
19
No donis la teva tórtora a les feres, no oblidis els teus pobres per sempre.
20
Tingues present l’aliança: les coves del país són caus de violència.
21
Que els oprimits no se’n vagin defraudats, que els desvalguts i els pobres lloïn el teu nom.
22
Alça’t, Déu nostre, a defensar la teva causa! Recorda que tot el dia t’insulta l’insensat.
23
No oblidis la cridòria dels adversaris, l’avalot incessant dels qui s’alcen contra teu.
