Sargon, kongen i Assyria, sende hærføraren sin av stad, og då han kom til Asjdod, stridde han mot byen og tok han.

Det året hadde Herren tala såleis til Jesaja, son til Amos: «Gå og løys strieplagget av hoftene dine og ta skorne av føtene dine!» Han så gjorde og gjekk naken og berrføtt.

Då sa Herren: «Liksom Jesaja, tenaren min, har gått naken og berrføtt i tre år, til teikn og varsel mot Egypt og Nubia,

såleis skal assyrarkongen driva med seg krigsfangane frå Egypt og dei bortførte frå Nubia, både unge og gamle – nakne og berrføtte og med berr bak – til vanære for Egypt.

Då skal folk verta forfærde og skjemmast over Nubia som dei sette si von til, og over Egypt som dei var så stolte av.

Den dagen skal dei som bur på desse strendene, seia: «Sjå, såleis har det gått med dei som vi sette vår von til og flydde til etter hjelp, så vi kunne bergast frå assyrarkongen. Korleis skal vi då koma unna?»
