En salme av David. Velsignet skal Herren være, Han som er mitt livs fundament. Han lærer meg å kjempe, Han er min trofaste Gud, min beskytter og min redningsmann. Hos Ham søker jeg trygghet og beskyttelse. Han gir meg autoritet over mitt folk, så de adlyder meg.

Herre, hvor mye er et menneske verd, siden Du kjennes ved ham og bryr Deg om ham? Mennesket er jo bare som et vindpust. Våre dager forsvinner like fort som skyggen.

Herre, grip inn mot fienden. Kom ned med Dine himler! Rør ved fjellene, så de ryker. La lynene blinke, og skrem dem! Skyt Dine piler og slå fienden med forvirring! Rekk ut Din hånd fra det høye! Redd meg og fri meg fra det dype vann, fra dem som er ute etter meg, de som lyver og vil skade meg.

Gud, jeg vil synge en ny sang til Deg. Til en tistrenget harpe vil jeg lovsynge Deg, Du som lar konger seire og verger Din tjener David mot sverd. Redd meg og fri meg fra mine fiender.

Da skal våre sønner og døtre blomstre i sin ungdom. De skal vokse seg store, vakre og sterke. Da skal våre låver fylles av markens grøde, og våre husdyr formere seg i tusentall. Ja, titusener av dem skal spre seg på markene våre. Kuene får friske kalver som vokser opp. Bymuren skal ikke ha sprekker, og ingen skal bli bortført. Da skal det ikke høres noe skrik i våre gater. Velsignet er det folket som har det slik. Velsignet er det folk som har Herren som sin Gud.
