Dette er en undervisningssalme av David til bruk i tempelet. Den ble skrevet da han kjempet mot arameerne fra Mesopotamia og Soba, og Joab vendte tilbake og slo 12 000 edomitter i Saltdalen.

Gud, Du er blitt sint på oss og har skjøvet oss vekk fra Deg. Du har ydmyket oss. Ta oss tilbake igjen! Du har fått jorden til å skjelve da Du delte den og den fikk revner. Du har latt Ditt folk se harde tider og gitt oss vin å drikke så vi ble fortumlet.

De som bøyer seg i respekt for Deg, kan løfte opp sannhetens banner. Redd oss med Din høyre hånd og svar oss, for at vi som er Dine elskede, skal bli hjulpet og befridd.

I sin hellighet har Gud talt: «Jeg vil fryde Meg. Jeg vil dele ut Sikem og måle opp Sukkotdalen. Gilead er Min, og Manasse er Min. Efraim er som en hjelm på Mitt hode, og Juda er Min herskerstav. Moab er Mitt vaskekar. Over Edom skal Jeg kaste Min sko. Filisterland, du skal hylle meg.»

Hvem skal føre meg til byen som er befestet? Hvem skal lede meg til Edom? Skal ikke Du gjøre det, Gud? Men Du har jo støtt oss bort da Du ikke ble med oss i krigen?

Gi oss hjelp i vår nød, for ingen mennesker kan redde oss nå. Ved Guds kraft skal vi gjøre mektige gjerninger, for det er Han som skal trampe på våre fiender.
