Juble for Gud! Han er vår styrke. Sett i et gledesrop for Israels Gud! Stem i en sang og slå på tamburinen, la musikken muntert lyde til Hans ære! Blås i instrumenter både ved nymåne og ved fullmåne. Spill på vår store festdag!

For dette er et bud og en lov fra Israels Gud som folket skal lyde. Dette ble bestemt av Ham for Josef, da han dro gjennom Egypt. Jeg fikk høre noe nytt da Du befridde oss fra slaveriet.

Dere ropte i deres nød, og Jeg fridde dere ut. Jeg lot min stemme høres i tordenskyen – og slik svarte Jeg. Jeg testet dere ved Meribavannene. Hør, Mitt folk! Jeg vil advare deg, Israel, om du bare ville høre på Meg! Det skal ikke være noen fremmede guder hos dere. Dere skal ikke tilbe noen fremmed gud. Jeg er Herren Din Gud, Han som førte deg ut fra Egypt. Kom med behovene deres til Meg, og Jeg skal gi dere det dere trenger!

Men Mitt folk hørte ikke på det Jeg sa. Israels folk ville ikke lyde. Derfor sendte Jeg dem fra Meg med harde hjerter. De fikk leve slik de selv syntes var best.

Om bare Mitt folk ville høre på Meg, om bare Israel ville leve etter Min plan og vilje for dem! Da skulle jeg vært snar til å underkue fiendene deres! Da skulle Jeg løfte Min hånd mot motstanderne deres. De som hater Herren, må krype for Ham, og deres tragiske skjebne varer til evig tid. Han har gitt sitt folk den beste hveten, og mettet dem med honning fra klippen.
