Red my, Here, van slegte mense; hou my veilig teen geweldenaars,

hulle wat in hulle harte booshede beplan, wat elke dag gevegte aanhits.
4
Hulle maak hulle tonge so skerp soos dié van slange; die gif van adders skuil agter hulle lippe.
5
Here, beskerm my teen die hande van goddeloses; hou my veilig teen geweldenaars wat beplan om my voete te laat ontspoor.
6
Hoogmoediges het in die geheim vir my 'n vangnet gespan; met toue het hulle 'n net langs die pad oopgesprei; vangstrikke het hulle vir my gestel.
7
Ek het vir die Here gesê: “U is my God; Here, luister na my smeekgebed.
8
Here, my Heer, die krag wat my verlos, U beskut my kop op die dag van oorlog.
9
Here, gee tog nie die goddeloses wat hulle begeer nie; hulle bose planne, laat dit nie slaag nie. Hulle sal verwaand raak.
10
“Die koppe van hulle wat my omring, laat dit oordek word met die onheil wat hulle ander toewens.”
11
Mag gloeiende kole oor hulle uitgeskud word; mag Hy hulle in die vuur laat val, in bodemlose putte dat hulle nooit weer opstaan nie.
12
Lasteraars – mag hulle nie gevestig raak in die land nie. Geweldenaars – mag onheil op hulle jag maak, keer op keer.
13
Ek weet: Die Here behartig die regsaak van magteloses, die reg van behoeftiges.
14
Waarlik, regverdiges sal u Naam prys; opregtes sal in u teenwoordigheid woon.
