'n Gebed. Van Moses, die man van God. My Heer, U was vir ons 'n woning van geslag tot geslag.

Voordat die berge gebore is en U die aarde en die bewoonbare wêreld voortgebring het, ja, van altyd af en vir ewig is U God.

U laat sterflinge terugkeer tot stof; U sê net: “Keer terug, mensekinders!”

Want duisend jaar is in u oë soos die dag van gister wanneer dit verbygaan, – 'n wagbeurt in die nag.

U vee hulle weg in die slaap. In die oggend is hulle soos gras wat opskiet,

wat in die oggend bloei en uitspruit, en teen die aand verlep en verdroog.

Ja, ons het vergaan onder u toorn, deur u woede word ons verskrik.

U het ons sondeskuld voor U geplaas, ons geheime sondes in die lig van u teenwoordigheid.

Want al ons dae gaan verby onder u gramskap, ons voltooi ons jare soos 'n sug.

Die dae van ons lewensjare – dit is maar sewentig jaar, en as die kragte daar is, tagtig jaar. En die beste daarvan is vol moeite en rampe; ja, dit gaan gou verby, en ons vlieg weg.

Wie ken die krag van u toorn? U gramskap is net so groot soos die ontsag vir U.
12
Om ons lewensdae na waarde te skat – dit moet U ons leer, sodat ons 'n hart vol wysheid kan verwerf.

Keer terug, Here! Hoe lank nog? Ontferm U oor u diensknegte.

Versadig ons in die oggend met u troue liefde, sodat ons al die dae van ons lewe kan juig en bly wees.

Maak ons bly vir net so lank as wat U ons verdruk het, as die jare waarin ons teenspoed beleef het.

Mag u werk vir u diensknegte duidelik word, en u glansryke dade vir hulle kinders.

Mag die goedheid van my Heer, ons God, oor ons wees. En ons handewerk, hou dit vir ons in stand, ja, ons handewerk, hou dit in stand.
