'n Psalm. Van Dawid. Here, ek roep U aan; kom gou na my toe! Luister na my stem wanneer ek na U roep.

Mag my gebed standhoudend voor U wees soos reukwerk, die ophef van my hande soos die aandoffer.

Here, plaas 'n wag voor my mond, bewaak die deur van my lippe.

Moet my hart nie laat neig na iets wat sleg is nie, sodat ek nie deur 'n misstap roekeloos optree saam met manne wat onreg pleeg nie; laat ek tog nie aan hulle lekkernye proe nie.

'n Regverdige kan my maar slaan – dit is uit troue liefde; hy kan my maar teregwys – dit is olie vir die kop. My kop sal dit nie weier nie. Maar my gebed sal steeds gerig wees teen daardie mense se bose dade.

Al sou hulle regeerders oor die rand van 'n krans afgegooi word, sou hulle steeds hoor dat my woorde aangenaam is.

Soos wanneer iemand grond omploeg en vore daarin maak, lê ons beendere uitgestrooi by die ingang van die •doderyk.

Maar op U, Here, my Heer, bly my oë gerig; by U skuil ek. Moenie my lewe uitgiet nie.
9
Beskerm my teen die greep van die vangnet wat hulle vir my gespan het, teen die valstrikke van hulle wat onreg pleeg.
10
Laat goddeloses in hulle eie vangnette val, terwyl ek alleen daar verbygaan.
