O God wat vergeld, Here, God wat vergeld, laat u lig skyn.

Verhef U, regter van die aarde, gee hoogmoediges hulle verdiende loon.

Hoe lank sal goddeloses, o Here, hoe lank sal goddeloses jubel?
4
Hulle laat woorde onbeskaamd uitborrel; almal wat onreg pleeg, prys hulleself aan.
5
Hulle verpletter u volk, Here, hulle verdruk u erfdeel.
6
Hulle maak weduwees en •vreemdelinge dood, hulle vermoor vaderlose kinders.
7
Dan sê hulle nog: “Die Here sien dit nie, die God van Jakob merk dit nie op nie.”
8
Sien dit tog in, julle onverstandiges onder die volk! En dwase, wanneer word julle wys?
9
Hy wat die oor inplant, sal Hy nie kan hoor nie, of Hy wat die oog vorm, sal Hy nie kan sien nie?
10
Hy wat nasies vermaan, sal Hy nie straf nie, Hy wat aan mense kennis oordra?
11
Die Here ken mense se gedagtes, dat dit nietigheid is.
12
Gelukkig is die mens vir wie U teregwys, Here, vir wie U leer uit u wet,
13
om aan hom verligting te gee in dae van onheil, totdat 'n graf gegrawe is vir goddeloses.
14
Ja, die Here sal sy volk nie in die steek laat nie; sy erfdeel sal Hy nie laat vaar nie.
15
Want die regspraak sal weer regverdig wees en almal met opregte harte sal dit steun.
16
Wie sal vir my opstaan teen kwaaddoeners? Wie sal vir my in die bres tree teen hulle wat onreg pleeg?
17
As die Here nie my hulp was nie, sou ek spoedig in die stilte gewoon het.

As ek dink my voet gaan swik, dan ondersteun u troue liefde my, Here.

Wanneer ontstellende gedagtes meer word in my binneste, dan beur u vertroosting my op.

Kan die setel van vernietiging wat die wet skade aandoen, aan U verbonde wees?

Hulle span saam teen die lewe van regverdiges, hulle verklaar onskuldige bloed skuldig.

Maar die Here het vir my 'n toevlugsoord geword, my God het my rotsskuiling geword.

En Hy sal hulle onreg na hulle laat terugkeer, met hulle eie kwaad sal Hy hulle vernietig; die Here ons God sal hulle vernietig.
