2 A Thiarna, ná lochtaigh mé i d' fhearg; ná déan mo smachtú i do chuthach. 3 Tá do shaigheada greamaithe go domhain ionam agus tháinig do lámh anuas orm.

4 Ní slán do mo cholainn de dheasca d' fheirge níl folláine i mo chnámha de thoisc mo pheaca.

5 Óir d' éirigh mo chionta os mo chionn agus luíonn siad ina n-ualach róthrom orm.

6 Tá mo chréachta ina mbracha is boladh bréan uathu de dheasca mo dhíchéille féin.

7 Tá mé crom; tá mé craptha go dearfa; triallaim timpeall go dobrónach ar feadh an lae.

8 Tá mo leasracha arna líonadh d' othras, níl folláine ar bith i mo cholainn.
8
9 Tá mé traochta; tá mé brúite as cuimse, is mé ag cneadaíl le céasadh mo chroí.
9
10 Is feas duit, a Thiarna, mo mhianta, níor ceileadh ort m' osnaí ach oiread.

11 Tá mo chroí ag preabadh; d' imigh mo neart uaim, agus tá solas mo shúl tar éis teip orm.

12 Seachnaíonn mo chomhluadar is mo chairde mé, agus fanann mo ghaolta i bhfad uaim, mar gheall ar mo chréachtaí.

13 An dream ar a bhfuil fonn mo mharaithe cuireann siad ribe romham an dream a iarrann mo dhochar agus mo mhilleadh, beartaíonn siad feall i mo choinne ar feadh an lae.
13
14 Is cosúil mé le bodhrán nach gcluineann le balbhán nach n-osclaíonn a bhéal;
14
15 amhail duine nach gcluineann dada ar bith ' s nach bhfuil oiread agus focal ina phluc aige.

16 Óir is ionat atá mo dhóchas, a Thiarna, is tú a thabharfaidh freagra, a Dhia liom.
16
17 Óir deirim: «An dream a bhíonn ag maíomh orm an uair a shleamhnaíonn mo chos uaim, nár dhéana siad gairdeas mar gheall orm.»
17
18 Óir táimse ar tí titim faoi láthair; bíonn mo bhrón as mo chomhair de ghnáth.

19 Admhaím mo chion is mo pheaca; is buartha go fíor mé dá dheasca.
19
20 Is cumhachtach iad mo naimhde gan ábhar agus is líonmhar lucht m' fhuatha gan fáth,
20
21 a thugann an t-olc uathu i gcúiteamh na maithe agus a chuireann i m' aghaidh toisc go leanaim den mhaith.
21
22 Ná tréig mé, a Thiarna, a Dhia liom! ná bíse i bhfad uaim choíche!
22
23 Brostaigh, a Dhia, chun mo chúnaimh, a Thiarna, is tú mo shlanú.
