Louez le Seigneur, car il est bon, car son amour dure toujours!

Voilà ce que disent ceux que le Seigneur a libérés, qu'il a rachetés des griffes de l'adversaire

et qu'il a rassemblés de toutes les contrées, de l'est et de l'ouest, du nord et du midi.

Certains erraient dans le désert, sur un chemin de solitude, sans trouver de lieu habité.
5
Ils mouraient de faim et de soif, la vie les abandonnait.
6
Dans leur malheur, ils crièrent vers le Seigneur, et il les délivra de leur détresse.
7
Il les mena par un chemin direct pour aller vers un lieu habité.
8
Qu'ils louent le Seigneur pour sa bonté, pour ses actions extraordinaires en faveur des humains!
9
Car il a donné à boire à l'assoiffé, il a comblé de biens l'affamé.
10
D'autres, misérables prisonniers enchaînés, habitaient dans un lieu obscur et ténébreux.
11
Ils avaient été rebelles aux paroles de Dieu, ils avaient méprisé les conseils du Très-Haut.
12
Il les accabla sous le poids de la peine, ils trébuchèrent et personne ne les secourut.
13
Dans leur malheur, ils crièrent vers le Seigneur, et il les sauva de leur détresse.

Il les fit sortir de l'obscurité et des ténèbres et il rompit les liens de leur détention.

Qu'ils louent le Seigneur pour sa bonté, pour ses actions extraordinaires en faveur des humains!

Car il a fracassé les portes de bronze, il a brisé les verrous de fer.

D'autres avaient perdu la raison tant ils se conduisaient mal. Par leur faute, ils étaient accablés de tourments.

Écœurés par toute nourriture, ils avaient déjà un pied dans la tombe.

Dans leur malheur ils crièrent vers le Seigneur, et il les sauva de leur détresse.

Il envoya sa parole pour les guérir, il les arracha à la mort.
21
Qu'ils louent le Seigneur pour sa bonté, pour ses actions extraordinaires en faveur des humains!

Qu'ils offrent des sacrifices pour le remercier, qu'ils racontent ce qu'il a fait en criant leur joie!

D'autres s'étaient embarqués sur des navires, pour exercer leur métier en pleine mer.
24
Ceux-là ont vu de quoi le Seigneur est capable, ses actions extraordinaires en haute mer.
25
D'une parole, il déclencha un vent de tempête qui souleva les vagues.
26
Leur bateau était projeté vers les cieux, puis il dévalait dans les creux; eux-mêmes étaient pris par l'épouvante,
27
pris de vertige et titubant comme des gens ivres. Tout leur savoir-faire était tenu en échec.
28
Dans leur malheur ils crièrent vers le Seigneur, et il les fit sortir de leur détresse.
29
Il changea l'ouragan en brise légère, les vagues s'apaisèrent.
30
Ils se réjouirent du calme revenu, Dieu les conduisit à bon port.
31
Qu'ils louent le Seigneur pour sa bonté, pour ses actions extraordinaires en faveur des humains!
32
Qu'ils proclament sa grandeur dans l'assemblée du peuple, qu'ils l'acclament dans le conseil des anciens!
33
C'est lui qui change des cours d'eau en désert et des oasis en zones arides,
34
ou une terre fertile en terre salée stérile, quand ses habitants se comportent mal.
35
Il change aussi un désert en étendue d'eau, une terre desséchée en oasis.
36
Là, il fait vivre des affamés qui fondent une ville pour y habiter;
37
ceux-ci sèment dans les champs, ils plantent des vignes et en recueillent les produits.
38
Le Seigneur les bénit, et il deviennent très nombreux, il ne laisse pas dépérir leur bétail.
39
Puis quand leur nombre diminue et qu'ils se courbent sous le poids de la privation, du malheur et de la détresse,
40
le Seigneur fait tomber le mépris sur les puissants et les laisse s'égarer dans un désert sans routes.
41
Mais il relève les pauvres de la misère, il accroît les familles autant que les troupeaux.
42
Que ceux qui mènent une vie droite se réjouissent en voyant tout cela, et que toute injustice soit réduite au silence!
43
Si quelqu'un est sage, qu'il tienne compte de ces faits, qu'il comprenne que le Seigneur est bon!
