Chant pour ceux qui montent à Jérusalem. Seigneur, souviens-toi de David et de tout son tourment.

C'est David qui fit ce serment au Seigneur, cette promesse au Dieu fort de Jacob:

« Je m'interdis d'entrer chez moi, de m'étendre sur mon lit,
4
de laisser mes yeux se fermer ni de prendre le moindre sommeil,
5
tant que je n'aurai pas trouvé une place pour le Seigneur, une demeure pour le Dieu fort de Jacob! »

Oui, nous l'avons entendu dire: le coffre de l'alliance est à Éfrata, nous l'avons trouvé aux environs de Yaar.
7
Entrons dans la demeure du Seigneur, et prosternons-nous au pied de son trône.
8
Seigneur, lève-toi, accompagne le coffre de l'alliance où réside ta puissance, et viens en ce lieu destiné à ton repos!
9
Que tes prêtres soient revêtus de justice et que ceux qui te sont fidèles crient leur joie!
10
Pour l'amour de ton serviteur David, ne repousse pas le roi que tu as mis à part.
11
Le Seigneur a fait ce serment à David; il ne reviendra pas sur ce qu'il a promis:
12
« C'est un de tes fils que je mettrai sur ton trône. Si tes fils respectent mon alliance et les instructions que je leur donne, alors leurs fils aussi siègeront sur ton trône et ce sera ainsi pour toujours! »

En effet le Seigneur a choisi Sion, il a désiré y faire sa résidence.
14
Il a déclaré: « Voilà pour toujours le lieu de mon repos; c'est ici que je désire habiter!
15
Oui, je ferai du bien à Sion, en lui procurant de quoi vivre, je donnerai à ses pauvres tout le pain dont ils ont envie.
16
Je revêtirai de salut ses prêtres, ceux qui lui sont fidèles crieront leur joie.
17
À Sion je ferai naître une descendance puissante à David. Je préparerai une lampe pour le roi que j'ai mis à part.
18
Je revêtirai de honte ses ennemis, mais sa couronne royale étincellera sur son front. »
