De David. Béni soit le Seigneur, mon rocher, lui qui m'entraîne à la bataille et me prépare au combat.

Il est mon allié et mon refuge, ma forteresse, mon libérateur, le bouclier qui m'abrite. C'est lui qui met des peuples à mes pieds.

Pourtant, Seigneur, qu'est-ce qu'un être humain pour que tu t'intéresses à lui? Qu'est-il pour que tu tiennes compte de lui?

L'être humain n'est qu'un souffle, sa vie n'est qu'une ombre qui passe.

Seigneur, incline tes cieux et descends; touche les montagnes pour qu'elles s'embrasent.

Lance des éclairs dans toutes les directions, envoie tes flèches en tous sens.
7
Étends ta main du haut des cieux, délivre-moi, arrache-moi au danger, au flot puissant des populations étrangères;
8
leur bouche est menteuse et leur main trahit le serment qu'elle a fait.

Mon Dieu, je veux chanter pour toi un chant nouveau, te célébrer sur la harpe à dix cordes:

« C'est Dieu qui donne la victoire aux rois, qui délivre David son serviteur. »

De l'épée cruelle, délivre-moi; arrache-moi à ces peuples étrangers; leur bouche est menteuse et leur main trahit le serment qu'elle a fait.

Que nos fils soient comme des plantes qui ont poussé tout droit depuis leur jeunesse! Que nos filles soient aussi belles que les colonnes sculptées qui ornent les palais!

Que nos greniers regorgent de provisions de toutes sortes! Que notre petit bétail dans les campagnes soit mille fois, dix mille fois plus nombreux!

Que notre gros bétail prospère! Que nous soient épargnés l'invasion et l'exil, les cris déchirants sur les places publiques!
15
Heureux le peuple à qui tout cela est donné, heureux le peuple qui a le Seigneur comme Dieu!
