Psaume d'Assaf. Dieu, des étrangers ont envahi ton domaine, ils ont souillé le temple qui est le tien, ils ont fait de Jérusalem un tas de ruines.

Ils ont donné en pâture aux vautours les cadavres de tes serviteurs, aux bêtes sauvages les corps de ceux qui te sont fidèles.

Tout autour de Jérusalem, le sang de ceux qui te sont fidèles a coulé à flots, sans personne pour les mettre en terre.

Nous voilà insultés par nos voisins, tournés en dérision, ridiculisés par ceux qui nous entourent.

Jusqu'à quand, Seigneur, garderas-tu cette colère incessante contre nous, cette passion jalouse qui brûle comme un feu?

Emporte-toi plutôt contre ces gens qui t'ignorent, contre ces royaumes où l'on ne te rend aucun culte.
7
Car ils ont pillé Jacob, ils ont dévasté son domaine.
8
Ne nous reproche pas les fautes de nos prédécesseurs, mais, par amour, fais un pas vers nous. Ne tarde pas, car nous sommes à bout de force.

Dieu, notre sauveur, viens à notre secours, ton honneur est en cause. Délivre-nous, pardonne nos torts, ta renommée est en cause.

Pourquoi les autres peuples demanderaient-ils: « Que fait-il donc, leur Dieu? » Qu'ils sachent plutôt, et que nous puissions voir, comment tu venges la mort de ceux qui te servent!

Avec bienveillance, écoute la plainte des prisonniers. Toi qui es si fort, garde en vie les condamnés à mort.
12
Seigneur, les peuples voisins t'ont provoqué; fais-les payer sept fois, en plein cœur, pour leurs insultes.
13
Mais nous qui sommes ton peuple, le troupeau dont tu es le berger, toujours nous te rendrons grâce; de siècle en siècle, nous célébrerons tes louanges.
