Je m'adresse à Dieu pour crier ma plainte, je m'adresse à Dieu pour qu'il me prête attention.

Quand je suis dans la détresse, je cherche le Seigneur. Sans relâche, la nuit, ma main se tend vers lui, je refuse qu'on me console.

Je pense à Dieu et je pousse des gémissements. Je réfléchis et la vie m'abandonne.

Tu m'empêches de fermer l'œil, Seigneur, je me trouble, je ne sais plus que dire.

J'évoque le lointain passé, je repense au temps d'autrefois. Je passe la nuit à réfléchir, je médite et je cherche à comprendre:

le Seigneur rejettera-t-il toujours? Ne sera-t-il plus jamais favorable?

A-t-il cessé pour toujours d'être bon? N'a-t-il désormais plus rien à dire?

Dieu a-t-il oublié de faire grâce? Dans sa colère, a-t-il fermé son cœur?

Je me dis: « Ce qui me fait souffrir, c'est que la manière d'agir du Dieu très-haut a changé. »

Je me souviens de ce que tu as fait, Seigneur, oui, j'évoque tes merveilles d'autrefois.

Je réfléchis à tes exploits, je médite tes actes mémorables.

Dieu, ton action est unique, aucun dieu n'est aussi grand que toi!

Tu es le seul qui fasses des merveilles; tu as montré ton pouvoir aux peuples.

Par ta vigueur tu as délivré ton peuple, les descendants de Jacob et de Joseph.

Dieu, quand les eaux t'ont vu, elles ont été prises de peur, bouleversées jusqu'en leurs profondeurs.

Les nuages déversaient des torrents d'eau, au milieu d'eux grondait le tonnerre, et tes flèches volaient en tous sens.
19
Au roulement de ton tonnerre, les éclairs illuminaient le monde, la terre tremblait de peur.

Tu t'es fait un chemin dans la mer, un passage au fond de l'eau, et personne ne retrouva tes traces.
21
Par la main de Moïse et d'Aaron, tu as conduit ton peuple comme un troupeau.
