Dieu, ne t'accorde aucun repos, ne garde pas le silence, ne reste pas inactif.

Voici, tes ennemis s'agitent; ceux qui te haïssent ont relevé la tête.

Ils trament un complot contre ceux qui t'appartiennent, ils se concertent contre tes protégés.

« Allons, disent-ils, faisons-les disparaître comme peuple; qu'on ne se souvienne plus du nom d'Israël! »

Ils se consultent, ils sont tous d'accord pour conclure un pacte contre toi.

Ce sont les gens d'Édom et d'Ismaël, ceux de Moab, d'Agar et de Guébal,

les Ammonites et les Amalécites, les Philistins, et encore les gens de Tyr.

Même les Assyriens se sont joints à eux pour prêter main forte aux descendants de Loth.

Dieu, traite-les comme Sisra et Yabin au torrent du Quichon; ou comme les Madianites exterminés à la fontaine de Dor, laissés comme du fumier sur le sol.

Traite leurs princes comme Oreb et Zeb, et tous leurs chefs comme Zéba et Salmounna,

ces gens qui avaient déclaré: « Emparons-nous du domaine de Dieu. »

Mon Dieu, fais qu'ils aient le même sort que la graine de chardon ou les fétus de paille, emportés par le vent.

Comme un feu dévore une forêt, comme une flamme embrase les montagnes,

lance une tempête à leur poursuite, terrifie-les par ton ouragan.
17
Couvre leur visage de honte, et qu'ils te cherchent, Seigneur.
18
Qu'ils soient humiliés, épouvantés sans fin, que leurs espoirs soient déçus, qu'ils dépérissent!
19
Qu'ils sachent alors qui tu es, Seigneur, le seul Dieu très-haut sur toute la terre!
