Seigneur Dieu, mon sauveur, le jour je crie au secours, la nuit je me tiens devant toi.

Accueille ma prière avec bienveillance, tends une oreille attentive à ma plainte.

Oui, j'en ai plus qu'assez des malheurs, je suis à deux doigts de la mort.

On me compte parmi ceux qui descendent déjà dans la tombe, je suis sans force.

Ma place est parmi les morts, je suis comme les gens assassinés qu'on a couchés dans la tombe. Tu ne te souviens plus d'eux et eux sont coupés de toi.

Tu m'as mis tout au fond du gouffre, dans l'obscurité profonde.

Ta fureur s'est abattue sur moi en vagues dont tu m'accables.

Tu as éloigné de moi les personnes qui me connaissent, je suis à leurs yeux un objet de dégoût. Me voilà enfermé dans mon malheur, impossible d'en sortir!

Mes yeux sont usés par le chagrin. Chaque jour, Seigneur, je t'appelle au secours, je tends les mains vers toi.

Feras-tu un miracle pour les morts? Se lèveront-ils pour te louer?

Parle-t-on de ton amour dans une tombe, de ta fidélité dans le monde des morts?

Dans la nuit totale, que sait-on de tes miracles? Au pays de l'oubli, a-t-on une idée de ta justice?

Moi, je t'appelle au secours, Seigneur, dès le matin, je t'expose ma demande:

Pourquoi, Seigneur, m'as-tu rejeté? Pourquoi refuses-tu de me voir?

Depuis mon enfance, je suis malheureux, à deux doigts de la mort; j'endure la terreur que tu m'imposes, je suis complètement désespéré!

Le feu de ta colère passe sur moi, tes attaques terribles m'anéantissent.

Comme des eaux qui me submergent, tous les jours, elles m'assaillent de tous côtés.

Tu éloignes de moi mes proches, mes amis. L'obscurité seule me tient compagnie.
